Recognizing the Holy Spirit’s Influence
Earlier this fall the ACFG team went through a training seminar to help strengthen our “spiritual radar.” The purpose of this seminar was twofold - to help us identify experiences we have in our ministry where we see the Holy Spirit at work and then to develop that experience into a story worth sharing. It is our greatest joy to have God use us in his kingdom and we want to share what he is doing!
Over the course of the next few months leading up to our March event we will share some of these stories here as well as on Facebook. Many times we have seen how little things that seemed insignificant to us were where the Holy Spirit is moving and working great things. Take for example our story of Joann and her family, which we featured at our gala event last spring. Little things, like information flyers, led to a renewal of faith and fellowship for Joann and her children. Visit our Facebook page to watch the feature video that was created to tell her story.

Another occurrence of God using “little things” to make great changes is through the simple act of buying lunch for a teacher. One way our school chaplains like to make connections with the staff is by getting them lunch and chatting over their break period. This provides a casual way for the teacher to open up and connect. Chaplain Sarah Enstad had been doing this for a few staff members at her school last year. There was one staff member in particular who she was having a hard time connecting with and ministering to. So when the time came around to have lunch with the teacher, she wasn’t expecting much. But she couldn’t have been more wrong! The walls that this teacher had put up came crumbling down over a simple meal of Chick-fil-A. The teacher shared how traumatic events from her past had made it hard to deal with situations in the classroom. This casual meal allowed the teacher to feel safe enough to be vulnerable and share her struggles. Because of this, encouragement, prayer and support were able to be given and strengthened a relationship.
We have so many more stories like these to share with you, and we are excited to do so over the next few months. Going through the storytelling seminar has greatly helped our team see the wonderful ways the Spirit is at work in and through our team. Your support of our ministry makes these stories possible!

As we enter the season of Thanksgiving, our hearts are full of gratitude for you - our faithful supporters who pray, give, and stand with us as we share the love of Jesus in Milwaukee schools and the community. Through your partnership, we have the blessing to serve as ambassadors sharing the love of Jesus every day. Our chaplains are able to walk alongside students, families, and staff - offering prayer, encouragement, and the hope found only in Christ Jesus. Our ministers are able to provide support to local congregations. Our team is able to go out and share our stories. Every opportunity, whether they be conversations, worship support, a moment of one-on-one care, or a prayer shared happens because of your support.
As we reflect on the many blessings God has already given to us individually and as a ministry we cannot help but be filled with gratitude to serve God in this way. And yet, we still see the many needs and callings he has placed before us. Behind every chaplain, there’s a team working faithfully to support them - and we need to strengthen that team. Your partnership helps us send chaplains into more schools, make more connections with local congregations seeking support, provide essential care and training, and allow staff to attend key conferences for spiritual and professional growth.
Because of these needs we are boldly asking the Holy Spirit’s blessing over our end-of-year giving campaign. The goal of this Gratitude Campaign is to help support and supplement four main areas of focus in the coming year so that we, as an organization, may continue to meet the needs of those we serve and better steward the gifts God has given us. Beginning the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and going through the end of the year we have a goal to raise $55,000. We know this is a large goal, but we serve an even larger God! Each week we will post stories that share how God is working in and through our team to continue to shape us into his ambassadors for the kingdom. Each story will also be connected with a specific area of giving that will help continue and strengthen our work.
More information will be posted on our website and Facebook page as the month goes on. Be sure to follow us so that you don’t miss out on any of the great stories and opportunities to give. If you are ready to give today, use the green QR code listed below to take you to our giving site. We are so excited to see what God does through our year-end gratitude campaign!

On the Road
The month of October brought us many opportunities to take our stories on the road. We were blessed to share the work God is doing through us with three different events.
- Minister Mike represented us at the OWLS Convention in Oshkosh as well as doing a presentation to another OWLS group in Fond du Lac. We are so grateful for the connections that were made and encouragement received through these events.
- Pastor Steinberg hosted a table at the Urban Teachers and Leaders conference put on by the Center for Urban Teaching (CfUT) in Milwaukee. We always love the opportunity to partner with CfUT and support them in the awesome work they do.
- Chaplain Sarah and Coach Meyer spent time connecting with WELS teachers at the Wisconsin Lutheran State Teachers Conference hosted at Wisconsin Lutheran High School. This was a great opportunity for them to connect with other called workers and give them encouragement in their vital work while also sharing the things we are doing in Milwaukee. Chaplain Kopplin, Minister Mike and Melissa Sullivan all also spent some time helping make connections at the conference.
If you would like us to come present at your conference or congregation, please email us at office@acityforgod.org to set up a time for us to come share our stories with you!
Your Support Makes the Difference!
Your donations make it possible for ACFG to have seminars, like the one listed above, that help us continue to hone our craft as Christ’s Ambassadors in the city of Milwaukee. Having consistent support through your recurring gifts helps us better plan future seminars and other training which in turn directly affects those we serve. Please prayerfully consider if you can give a recurring gift for the first time or increase your current monthly gift. Take a Tour, or We Can Come to You!
We love sharing the ministry God entrusts us to carry out with you through this newsletter. Taking a tour with us would allow you to see first hand some of the ministry that takes place on a daily basis. Is there a specific chaplain you would like to see in action? We can make that happen! Would you like to have lunch with our Executive Director or a Mission Advancement team member? We would love to treat you to one of the local restaurants and share the newest things God is doing through ACFG.
Perhaps you, or someone you know would like to have us present at an upcoming event or conference. We would love to send an ACFG team member to make a presentation or lead a mission festival. If you are interested in any of these options, please send an email to Office@ACityForGod.org
